Alfred,
Winter storage? Shame on you. Here is how I would
prep my 1928 Scout and the HDs for winter in North
Idaho.
Scout: replace front wheel with ski. Add studded
racing tire to the rear, along with ski's on
outriggers. Wrap engine with forest fire fighter's
aluminum blanket to get the thing to warm up. Bounce
down every hill I could find. 8-)
HDs: Drain motor, primary, oil tank and gas tank.
Fill with 85W140 gear oil. Place bike on milk crate
and remove both wheels. Use a plant spray bottle
to fog entire bike with cosmoline thineed in white
gas (NO SMOKING). In spring, place entire shooting
match in scrap pile and go get another bike from
the nearby Indian reservation, never more than
$500.
